My name is Alex Omar Echevarría Báez, and I am the founder of BuildingPros9. I was born in Puerto Rico on April 9, 1992. Growing up, my dad introduced my brother, Luis Omar Echevarría, and me to baseball at a very early age. I started playing at the age of 3 in Puerto Rico and quickly fell in love with the sport.
As I got older, I improved at the game and began dreaming of one day calling myself a professional player. I graduated from Pine Ridge High School in Florida, and as a senior, I became a stronger athlete and started attracting attention from scouts. After high school, I played for ASA College in New York. During my freshman year, the team ranked number 17 in Division 1 JUCO baseball. While playing there, I was scouted by MLB teams and even invited to a pre-draft tryout. Unfortunately, I wasn’t drafted, so I decided to continue my baseball journey at a four-year school.
After two years at ASA College, I transferred to Campbellsville University in Kentucky, where the team was ranked 12th in the nation in NAIA baseball. We had a solid squad, but during our 14th game of the season, my life took an unexpected turn. After tagging up at third base and reaching home plate, I collapsed. My heart rate had spiked to 285 beats per minute, and I was diagnosed with a heart condition called Wolff-Parkinson-White Syndrome. Over the next eight years, I underwent three heart procedures. Unfortunately, this condition prevented me from continuing to play baseball at a high level.
At the age of 22, with my dream of becoming a professional player out of reach, I began looking for ways to stay involved in the game I loved. I wanted to give the next generation of players the guidance and mentorship I felt I had needed during my own journey. My goal became clear: to help young athletes achieve their dreams by becoming the coach and mentor I once wished for.
Today, my focus is on elevating and enhancing players’ abilities in game situations, helping them develop to their fullest potential. I have studied the game extensively and become an elite, professional trainer dedicated to improving the five key tools every baseball player needs. Over the past eight years, I have coached, trained, and mentored athletes of all ages. Watching their development, success, and the bonds we’ve created has been deeply rewarding.
My experiences have shaped my coaching philosophy. I failed so that young athletes can succeed in this challenging sport. Book a lesson with me, and together we’ll help your young athlete quickly grow and excel in the game.
